Spider-Man Scared Off the Top By Scream Debuted at $30.6 Million
Scream 5 takes place of Spider-Man: No Way Home on the top of the box office chart with a sale of $30.6 million at the first weekend.
The reboot of Scream by Paramount Pictures was launched with $30.6 million sales this weekend in the US cinemas, beating the recent Spider-Man: No Way Home off the top of the chart.
The fifth film of the Scream franchise, which was released on the Martin Luther King Jr, the holiday weekend is predicted to have $35 million sales including Monday. The first month of the year, January is usually a slow one for box office releases and especially due to the new Omicron variant of the Covid 19 virus, several movies have postponed their release date to ensure profits. However, strikingly this movie of the Scream franchise is the first success of the year 2022 in which Hollywood expects to go back to normal.
“All of our traditional measures were indicating a solid opening, but as I kept telling people: We’re still in this thing and it’s very difficult to determine what will actually happen,” said Chris Aronson, distribution chief for Paramount. “Now we’re open, people have seen the movie and we’re off and running. Hopefully, this becomes another building block toward building the business back and getting it back to some semblance of normalcy.”
In the meantime, although Spider-Man is on the second on charts it continues to rise in the records.
In its fifth weekend, Spider-Man collected $20.8 million and Sony Pictures have forecasted $5.2 million total in the holiday weekend of Martin Luther King Jr., which will make No Way Home reach $703.9 million total, beating Black Panther and going to the fourth position at all time.
While Scream 5 was released, Paramount Pictures have postponed other movies like Top Gun: Maverick and Mission Impossible 7. Movies that attract younger audiences have gone back to their pre-pandemic sales, movies of the genre that appeal to older audiences as well are still at the pandemic level.
