Studio Ghibli to Release a New Movie this Winter
Studio Ghibli is one of the oldest animation houses located in Japan. This winter, they will be releasing a new movie called 'Aya and the witch'
After laying low for quite a few years, Studio Ghibli announces to release a new movie this year. Their new movie called ‘Aya to Majo’ literally translates to Aya and the witch, which is based on a book written by Diana Wynne Jones. She has also written the book Howl’s Moving Castle that has been made into a movie as well.
Studio Ghibli is one of the oldest animation houses that have been producing movies for as long as I can remember. Based on the book Earwig and the Witch, Aya and the Witch will be animated in 3D3G for the first time. The film is a co-production between Studio Ghibli, NHK and NEP (NHK Enterprises). However, there are no plans to release the movie theatrically in Japan.
The movie is directed by Goto Miyazaki and produced by Toshio Suzuki. Toshio Suzuki has worked on many movies and been a part of Studio Ghibli. He has also won many awards for his previous movies. In fact, it was Suzuki who helped in announcing about Aya and the witch as it was meant to be a surprise. The producer understands the pandemic which has engulfed the whole world and was thinking whether it will be relevant in this situation.
Toshio Suzuki said:
“Then I realized that one stand-out feature of the film is Aya’s cleverness. And if you are clever you can survive in any period of history. Thinking that, I felt relieved.”
Studio Ghibli movies are very nostalgic. I’ve binge-watched their movies on Netflix ever since they were released. However, they all were old and made me relive my childhood memories. These movies took me back to the good old days. The new movie, Aya and the witch, will definitely take off our minds from the pandemic for a little while.
