Taylor Swift Breaks Top 10 Billboard Record with 4 Albums on the List

Taylor Swift's most recent album, "Speak Now (Taylor's Version)," arrived at No. 1 with the highest sales of any album so far this year.

Following the debut of her “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” album, Taylor Swift is making some significant chart history by being the very first woman to simultaneously have four records in the Top 10 of Billboard.

The most significant figure of the year thus far for any launch is her most recent album launched at No. 1 on the charts. Swift is one of just three musicians ever to achieve the feat, which is the very first thing a woman accomplished in the six-decade span of the album chart, as reported by Billboard.

In addition, Swift broke the previous record for a female singer with the greatest number of No. 1 albums in history. With twelve, she now surpasses Barbra Streisand, with whom she previously shared the honour with 11 each.

With 716,000 album-equivalent sales, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” debuted at the top of the Billboard 200 chart. The number of viewers decided this year’s opening-week race, as the prior record was held by Morgan Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time,” which made its premiere in March with 501,000.

Taylor Swift’s triumphal quadrilogy also includes the No. 5 “Midnights” album from 2022, the No. 7 “Lover” album from 2019, and the No. 10 “Folklore” album from 2020.

Previous Artist with the Record

The other two artists who have managed to place a total of four albums in the top 10 concurrently are Herb Alpert and Prince, in case any trivia fans are curious. In 1966, Alpert became the last person still alive to handle that many. Immediately following Prince’s passing in 2016, occurred posthumously for him. When the chart was introduced in 1963, no one else has ever had four simultaneously.

In Taylor Swift’s quest to redo every album she originally produced for her former label, Big Machine, “Speak Now (Taylor’s Version)” set a record for the largest launch number of the three re-recordings she has released thus far.

After debuting with 605,000 in late 2021, “Red (Taylor’s Version)” is now in second position. The first album in this series, “Fearless (Taylor’s Version),” started with a less promising performance, selling 291,000 copies at the beginning of 2021. The lower number can be partially attributed to the fact that the much-anticipated vinyl version wasn’t yet accessible at that stage of general distribution. That one simply launched at No. 1 like the others did.

Sales of “Speak Now”

In an era where streaming accounts for the majority of the revenue from No. 1 albums, sales made up a significant portion of the “Speak Now” total. 507,000 copies of the album were sold in the initial seven days. Sales of vinyl made up 268.500 of those. According to Billboard, that was a vinyl album’s second-best week since SoundScan started keeping track of them in 1991. Only Swift’s “Midnights,” which debuted last October to 575,000 vinyl sales, had a stronger first week of sales in the previous 32 years.

Additionally, “Speak Now” is the most popular album to debut overall since “Midnights,” which debuted with 1.58 million first-week sales and includes streaming and buys.

Billboard also notes that her 716,000 unit tally for “Speak Now” is the fifth-largest launch of the previous five years. Four out of five of the aforementioned launches are albums by Swift, with Adele’s “30” coming in as the fourth-biggest, barely ahead of “Speak Now.”

Previous Record Holding Albums

Not to be overlooked, among the albums that managed to crack the top 10 despite Taylor Swift’s onslaught are Wallen’s “One Thing at a Time” at No. 2 (with 104,000 units) and “Dangerous” at No. 6; Lil Uzi Vert’s “Pink Tape” at No. 3 (down two spots from its No. 1 debut last week, with 61,000 in week 2); Peso Pluma’s “Genesis” at No.
