Katniss, along with Peeta Mellark, is forced to play lovers in order to win over the people of Panem, which will help them get sponsors for the hunger games.
Katniss Everdeen has the weight of providing for her widowed mother and little sister, not to mention the Reaping for the upcoming 74th Hunger Games. The barbaric games hosted by the predominant Capitol.
Two Tributes, a boy and a girl, from each of the twelve districts of Panem, are chosen to fight each other to the death in an arena to entertain the nation as a distraction from the failing conditions of the destitute districts.
Katniss, along with the boy with the bread-Peeta Mellark-are forced to play lovers in order to win over the people of Panem, which will help them get sponsors for the games.
“Star-crossed lovers desperate to get home together. Two hearts beating as one.”
The two Tributes from District 12 also have to team up with the former Victor: the alcoholic Haymitch Abernathy who is their mentor and has to help them survive the brutal games. Though, Haymitch isn’t sober most of the time, so his words are incoherent.
“Here’s some advice. Stay alive.”
Moved into the Capitol for The Hunger Games, Katniss is pampered by her team into a refined image for the cameras. “Made beautiful by Cinna’s hands, desirable by Peeta’s confession, tragic by circumstance, and by all accounts, unforgettable.”
Intense training and practice, all so she can murder innocent Tributes from other Districts who are-same as her-trying to stay alive and win to honor their people. And there will be remorseful consequences if they resist the orders of the Capitol.
“Look how we take your children and sacrifice them and there’s nothing you can do. If you lift a finger, we will destroy every last one of you.”
