TikTok Announces Family Pairing
TikTok has announced its Family Pairing feature. This allows parents and teens to customize their safety settings based on individual needs.
As the lock down continues, people from all ages are turning towards social media platforms. One such platform is TikTok, which has announced its Family Pairing feature. This allows parents and teens to customize their safety settings based on individual needs.
Furthermore, Family Pairing in TikTok enhances suite of safety tools and provides greater access to product features as users reach key milestones for digital literacy. Parents will learn a lot about online safety, as well as smart online behavior through this feature.
Not only is TikTok going to launch Family Pairing to help parents and young people who are just joining the social media app, but they have already put up many resources like educational safety videos and parental guides. One such resource is their Top Ten Tips for Parents.
TikTok’s Family Pairing Controls
In this feature, parents will be able to link with their children’s accounts and set controls. These controls include:
Screen Time Management: Parents will be able control how long their teens can spend on TikTok each day. Additionally, TikTok has partnered with top creators to make short videos that appear right in the app and encourage users to keep tabs on their screen time. These fun videos use the upbeat tone our users love while offering a suggestion to take a break and do something offline, like read a book.
Restricted Mode: This will limit the appearance of content that may not be appropriate for all audiences. Even without Family Pairing enabled, parents can help their teen set Screen Time Management and Restricted Mode by visiting the app’s Digital Wellbeing controls at any time.
Direct Messages: Restrict who can send messages to the connected account, or turn off direct messaging completely. With user safety in mind, TikTok has many policies and controls in place for messaging already – for example, only approved followers can message each other, and they don’t allow images or videos to be sent in messages. From April 30, the social media platform will be taking those protections one step further for the younger members of their community, and automatically disabling Direct Messages for registered accounts under the age of 16.
In their press release, the social media app stated that they look forward to working with their stakeholders to improve the safety standards continuously, as their progress in this area is not complete yet. It seems that TikTok is planning on launching features beyond Family Pairing later on. “We look forward to working with all our stakeholders as we continuously seek to improve through new features and resources to help our community manage their digital experience.”
