UAE Suspended Visit Visas to Pakistan and Others
As the country suffers from the second wave of the novel coronavirus, UAE announced that it has suspended visit visas to several states including Pakistan.
On Wednesday, 19th November, Foreign Office spokesperson, Zahid Hafeez Chaudhry announced that UAE had suspended issuing visit visas to a dozen countries including Pakistan. He claims that the suspension is due to the spike in corona cases in the world.
“We are seeking official confirmation from the concerned UAE authorities in this regard,” he said. He also assured the people who had already obtained visas that UAE’s decision to suspend visit visas does not apply to those who already have them.
Moreover, Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) spokesperson, Abdullah Hafeez, stated that the airline had not yet received any information about UAE suspending visit visas. According to him, the people holding iqama, transit, and work visas were still allowed entry in the UAE.
Since the UAE has several visa categories, it is not clear how many categories the suspension in visit visas apply to. Previously, in June when corona cases were at an all-time high UAE’s airline had announced a temporary suspension in passenger services from Pakistan till July 3rd.
Following the suspension by UAE, in August Kuwait’s international airline banned commercial flights to multiple states including Pakistan regarded as ‘high risk’ due to the spread of the virus. Ever since the last month, and the sudden surge in corona cases in Pakistan has been indicating that the country is experiencing the second wave.
For the past six days, Pakistan has recorded more than 2,000 daily cases of the novel coronavirus and officials have warned that the positivity rate of the disease has increased, especially in major cities including Karachi, Lahore, Islamabad, Faisalabad, Hyderabad, etc. which is the main reason as to why UAE suspended visit visas in the country.
