The Legend Comedy King and Actor, Umer Sharif, passed away at the age of 66. Here are all his accomplishments and a tribute to the legend.

Umer Sharif: The comedy king legend and the recipient of Tamgha – e – Imtiaz, for his contribution to the Entertainment Pakistani Industry, passed away in Germany on October 2nd, 2021. He was battling serious health problems and he was 66 years old. The news was confirmed by Sharif’s family member and later by Germany’s Ambassador, Dr. Mohamad Faisal, on Twitter as well.

Umer Sharif left for the US on an air ambulance on the 28th of September. However, his health started declining during the trip and the air ambulance had to make a prompt stopover in Germany and he was admitted there as soon as they landed.

The Federal Government assured Umer Sharif’s family that they will help him with 40 million rupees and the Sindh government also stepped in.

This all happened after the actor’s health became nationwide distressed and Umer Sharif made a video to plead to Pakistani PM, Imran Khan, to grant him an urgent US visa for his medical condition. According to Pervaiz Kaifi, his friend, Umer Sharif had a heart attack and had to go through two bypasses in August of this year.

Imran Ismail, Sindh Governor, paid homage to Umer Sharif saying “The one who used to spread smiles on people’s faces has left everyone grieving today. Umer Sharif was a big name in Pakistan’s film, television, and theatre” A lot of other public figures from both Pakistan and India have been pouring in their grievances for the late comedy legend, Umer Sharif.

Umer Sharif is regarded as an icon not only in Pakistan but also in India. He was a Pakistani actor, comedian, scriptwriter, voice writer, producer, and director. His acting and comedy show used to bring a storm of laughter to the audience. He was a household name in Pakistan when it came to entertainment since the 1980s.

His career started in 1974 when he was just 14 years old and he started with stage acting. He was quite fond of acting in comedy plays and released his first audiocassette play in 1980. He even wrote several plays with Moin Akhtar which was the peak of his career. Keeping aside his acting, he was keen on writing poetry and stories as well.

Sharif was not just a great comedian and play writer but also a great actor, director, and writer which can be clearly seen in his very successful movies Mr. 420, Mr. Charlie, and many more.

In the 90s he was referred to as the “King of Comedy” in South Asia. His popularity was not just restricted to the subcontinent, he was famous all over the world.
