Who Is Trying To Attack Salman Khan And Why

An explainer of the recent attacks and threats to Bollywood superstar.

In the tumultuous world of Bollywood, where fame and fortune often intertwine with danger and intrigue, few names shine as brightly – or attract as much controversy – as that of superstar Salman Khan. The recent shooting outside his Mumbai apartment has once again thrust the actor into the spotlight, with rumours swirling and fingers pointing in all directions. But who, or what, is behind these attacks, and what do they hope to achieve?

The two individuals, Vishal Rahul aka Vicky Gupta (24) and Sagar Pal (21) from Bihar, who opened fire outside the superstar’s Bandra house were arrested by the Kutch police and transferred to the Mumbai Crime Branch after being identified through CCTV.

Following this, Mumbai’s Killa Court remanded the pair to the custody of the Mumbai Crime Branch until April 25.

Vishal is rumoured to have ties to organised crime in the region, particularly the notorious Lawrence Bishnoi gang. He has been involved in theft and extortion since childhood and has also been involved in a murder case. Nearly five cases have been registered under his name in Gurugram and Delhi. Vishal’s group was involved in the recent murder of a bookie in Rohtak on the instructions of Lawrence Bishnoi.

With a history of violence and intimidation, this Bishnoi’s gang has made no secret of its disdain for Salman Khan, even going so far as to claim responsibility for the murder of Punjabi singer Sidhu Moosewala. But is this latest attack merely the work of a hardened criminal, or is there more to the story?

Some speculate that these attacks are nothing more than a publicity stunt, orchestrated to garner attention and strike fear into the hearts of Bollywood’s elite. After all, in a world where headlines are currency and notoriety is king, any publicity – even negative – is seen as a boon. But Salman’s father, Salim Khan, remains unfazed by the threats, dismissing them as nothing more than empty bravado. “They just want publicity,” he quips, “there is no need to worry.”

However, Salman’s brother Arbaz Khan posted a statement after the incident calling it “disturbing and unnerving”. The actor and producer said, “Our family has been taken aback by this shocking incident.”

Yet behind the bravado lies a darker truth: Salman’s history of run-ins with gangsters and criminals stretches back decades. From email threats to phone calls from self-proclaimed vigilantes, the actor has weathered more storms than most. And while some may dismiss these threats as mere bluster, the reality is far more chilling. The Bishnoi gang, with its roots in Rajasthan’s criminal underworld, has a long memory and a penchant for violence.

But perhaps the most intriguing aspect of this saga is its origins: the infamous Blackbuck incident of 1998. What began as a routine film shoot in the arid deserts of Rajasthan quickly escalated into a legal quagmire, with Salman at the centre of the storm. For the Bishnoi community, who hold the blackbuck sacred, the actor’s actions were nothing short of sacrilege, sparking a feud that would last for decades.

In the end, Salman remains a figure of controversy and contradiction, beloved by millions yet reviled by some. Mumbai Police has been swift in taking steps against attackers after each incident and threat, however, the mystery of the main culprit behind all of this remains a question mark. So, as the dust settles on yet another scandal, one only wishes for his safety.
