Why Career Counseling is So Important
There are so many potential career paths and options for the newer generation but there's no one to provide guidance.
When I was growing up, I only thought that people could either become teachers, doctors or engineers. I didn’t know about any other career paths because that’s what I saw people in my family become. No one guided me about the various options available. If I talk about my teachers, most of them looked down upon kids who chose the ‘general group’. I know about the behaviour because I chose it too. The reason why I didn’t opt for science or computer science because I knew I didn’t want to pursue it as a career.
I was a bright student and I had good grades too. The ones who have supportive parents are lucky and I’m one of them. I knew I wanted to get into a creative field from the start because I loved drawing. It was always a way to pour out my thoughts it just made me happy. I didn’t really choose it as a career but I’m working at a place where I am happy & content.
It’s sad that so many kids have to choose a career that they don’t want to pursue because of peer pressure. Most of them don’t have the option to choose from. Many of them have an amazing skill set that they can polish and use it to build their career but they are forced to become like the rest. We’re unfortunate to not have any career counselors.
It’s important to let your kids decide what they want to become in the future. Yes, a lot might not make the right choice, but that’s where a career counselor comes it. That person gives guidance and options for potential paths that they can choose from. The world is changing and we need to adapt to our surroundings accordingly too. If we fail to do so, then we may never get a chance to win.
