Yaran E Watan: Online Platform to Combat COVID-19
Yaran e Watan is an initiative started by the govt that connects Pakistani health diaspora to voluntary healthcare opportunities in Pakistani healthcare institutions.
Yaran e Watan is an online platform that connects overseas Pakistan healthcare professionals with voluntary services and institutions present in Pakistan. Prime Minister Imran Khan made an announcement on Twitter that this is an emergency response service that will help in combating COVID-19.
PM Imran Khan mentions in his tweet that Pakistani health professionals are on the frontline and fighting against the pandemic across the world. They also want to contribute and help Pakistan in fighting against COVID-19 by volunteering. Hence, the emergence of Yaran e Watan. Healthcare professionals can now volunteer their services by registering themselves on the website.

- Tele-training Sessions
- Telemedicine for Triage and Counselling
- Public health and Research Collaborations
Amidst the pandemic, it’s crucial for all Pakistani medical professionals to stay united. It will not only strengthen our bond but also help in fighting this virus outbreak efficiently. Yaran e Watan has been launched after carefully scrutinizing the situation of Pakistan. As the website mentioned that “Pakistan is amongst the 57 countries listed by WHO that have a critical health workforce deficiency”, which means that we lack a huge number of healthcare professionals.
We lack 0.4 million doctors and 1.6 million nurses. We need at least twice as many doctors and ten times more nurses to strengthen our health goals. A lot of Pakistanis have moved overseas and that includes many doctors too. Hence, in these challenging times, there is a noticeable difficulty which the country is facing.

“Yaran e Watan will help ensure that the diaspora becomes more aware and have appropriate access to specific volunteer work in Pakistan.”
