Young Pakistani Athlete Wins Gold Medal

It comes as no surprise that our country has enormous sporting talent and potential. The vast pool of talented young athletes provides Pakistan with the potential of becoming a sporting power. Our youth have gone on to wonders in multiple sporting events, claiming multitudes of different accolades.

One of them is a nine year old girl from Swat by the name of Ayesha Aziz. The nine year old athlete won a gold medal in the 34 kg category at the eight Fujairah Open Taekwondo Championship in Dubai. However, this is not her first major accomplishment in the sport.

The young taekwondo athlete is a five time district champion, a two time provincial champion and a three time national champion. Her father was a taekwondo athlete himself and now runs an academy in Swat. She has two younger brothers; Zaryab and Zaib Khan. Zaryab Khan has won a gold medal on the national level whereas Zaib won a silver medal.

This is not the first time that the nine year old taekwondo star has competed in this tournament. She competed last year in the 27 kg category and won a bronze medal then. The young girl’s triumphant victory in the tournament has sparked major celebrations in her home town, where she is now being hailed as a role model for young girls to follow.

With this win, we hope that more Pakistanis follow in this young girl’s footsteps and make Pakistan proud on international platforms.
