#EhtiyatCorona – Influencers Tackle Misinformation
Influencers join to spread only official information, public interest articles and material, and myth busters that are verified, using #EhtiyatCorona.
As of now, Pakistan has over 500 cases of COVID-19, along with 3 deaths. This has been causing panic across the nation, which has led to misinformation. To fight against this, many influencers have joined together to spread only official information (mostly regarding case numbers, and government announcements), public interest articles and material, and myth busters that is verified by the PM Office and other credible sources by using #EhtiyatCorona.
#EhtiyatCorona Influencers’ Team – What do we know?
To be a part of this team, an influencer should have a following of over 10,000 followers on a social media platform (preferably Instagram, YouTube, Twitter and TikTok). Muzamil Hassan is the leader of the influencers’ network. He has amassed around 86.3k followers on just Instagram.

One of the challenges that they face is to make the content religiously and culturally relevant. Salman Parekh, one of the participating influencer, stated that they have also “created content based on vetted hadiths by religious experts to share with people who use religion to disregard all corona advisory.”
Moreover, he also said, “the messaging has been limited to the admins to restrict flow of information in the [WhatsApp] group. People share their concerns with us privately to verify. If there is a medical question for instance, then we ask medical experts. No information is posted by admins without verification from relevant officials.”
