COVID-19 Patients in Pakistan Cross 500

Pakistan crosses the 500 mark, as the COVID-19 patients keep increasing in number. Despite being close to China geographically, Pakistan did not get its first case until the 26th of February. It was a man in his twenties who had just returned from a pilgrimage in Iran.

As the number of pilgrims returning from Iran increased, the number of patients increased too, despite a 14 day quarantine at the Taftan border. Now, Pakistan has had 3 deaths: two men – both pilgrims returning from Iran and Saudi Arabia, and the third casualty was a septuagenarian cancer survivor.

COVID-19 has started to spread locally as well in Pakistan, as many new patients that are being tested have not had any travel history in the recent times. The province-wide break up of cases as of 12:20pm, March 21, is as follows:

Total confirmed cases: 519

  • Sindh: 267
  • Punjab: 96
  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 23
  • Balochistan: 92
  • Islamabad Capital Territory: 10
  • Gilgit-Baltistan: 30
  • AJK: 01

Deaths: 03

  • Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 02
  • Sindh: 01

In these times, it is important to practice social distancing and self-isolation. It has been reported that the Government of Balochistan has imposed a three week partial lock down to curb the spreading. The Government of Sindh has urged its residents to stay within homes, and have disallowed gatherings of more than 3 people.
