Imtiaz Supermarket Violates Protocols Across Karachi
Along with the Korangi branch getting sealed, the Awami Markaz branch of Imtiaz Supermarket has also been filed a case against for violating guidelines.
On Sunday (March 29), the Korangi branch of Imtiaz Supermarket was shut down. According to the Commissioner of Karachi, Iftikhar Shallwani, Imtiaz supermarket was shut down for violating the guidelines provided by the Sindh Government.
Furthermore, an FIR was also registered against the Awami Markaz branch of Imtiaz supermarket chain for violating sections 144 and 188, as many people were gathered both inside and outside the supermarket.
In his statement, Iftikhar Shallwani urged the residents to keep a distance of one metre with each other while shopping. He also directed the Deputy Commissioners to ensure that the protocols are being enforced in their districts.
The Commissioner had visited various markets on Sunday to check whether his orders for social distance were being observed. When commenting on Imtiaz Supermarket in Korangi, he revealed, “those stores or markets which fail to adopt precautionary measures will be sealed.”
A long queue was seen outside of Imtiaz Supermarket by a shopper on Sunday, where no one had been observing the one-metre rule. However, this was refuted by another shopper who had gone to the store in the evening. He stated that the store was well-managed inside, and that “there was at least one-trolley distance between all the shoppers standing in the queue. No one without a mask was allowed the entry and trolleys were repeatedly sanitized.”
There have been no response from Imtiaz Supermarket as of now, as their legal team is looking into the matter.
