Saudi-UAE Coalition Attacks Yemen

In response to the recent Yemen led attacks in Riyadh and Jazan, Yemen now has been a center of attack from the opposing forces.

Saudi Arab-UAE have been rivals to Yemen since a really long time. Iran, which again is a rival to the Saudi state, has been backing Yemen Houthis for long. There are two different governments fighting for power in Yemen one being backed by Saudi and other being backed by Iran. However, Yemen has been in direct conflict with Saudis too.

Recently, two ballistic missiles were launched into Riyadh and one was launched in to Jazan. The surface-to-surface missiles were apparently launched from the rival country, Yemen. Regardless of the fact that the Saudis had intercepted the missiles and had brought them down, they were still seeking revenge. Hence, on Monday 30th March, around 19 airstrikes took place in Sanaa, Yemen. As far as the reports tell, no casualties have been reported so far.

Trying to mediate, The United Nations has intervened into the issue. UN’s Envoy for Yemen, Martin Griffiths, said “The country needs its leaders to focus every minute of their time on averting and mitigating the potentially disastrous consequences of a COVID-19 outbreak.”

Yemen is a country, where people die of war more than such pandemics. According to WHO, there has not been a single case of coronavirus in Yemen. However, hundreds and thousands of people have lost their lives to war and famine respectively in Yemen this year. And in such harsh times, no one should be opting for a war, because people are already dying due to corona outbreak.

Nevertheless, all we can do is hope and pray. Pray for those in Yemen and hope for the war to end as soon as possible.
