Actress Sonya Hussyn landed in hot waters with social media users after she stated that autism is a symptom of schizophrenia. In reality however, autism is a disability that does NOT lead to schizophrenia.
The actress had uploaded a poster regarding her upcoming show Saraab, which shows Hussyn as a mentally ill patient.
She had listed autism in the poster too, and when one user pointed out that autism is not a mental health related illness, but rather a disability, Sonya Hussyn stated that autism is a symptom of schizophrenia.
Since the reply came forth, Sonya Hussyn has been bashed by Twitter. The users of the microblogging social media platform state that the actress could have at least glanced at Google to educate herself before posting such a wild statement.

Sonya, however, mentioned in an interview that she had trained for the role for 2 months by visiting rehab centers with the director and the producers to meet with patients who are suffering from schizophrenia. “For about two months, the makers kept in touch with me about my training which gave me the confidence that I can pull this off,” she had said.
She shared that the drama serial is “entire documentation from diagnosis, to treatment and to potential recovery. It is basically the story of a seemingly ‘normal’ girl in a normal setting, who has symptoms of schizophrenia that people around her are unable to recognise.”
