Shaniera Akram: The True Pakistani Social Activist
Shaniera Akram proving to be a true asset to Pakistan's people and society by becoming one of the most credible social activists in Pakistan!
Shaniera Akram, wife of Wasim Akram; actually no, the woman is so much more than just being a wife to a famous personality. The need to acknowledge women for their doings and recognizing them as separate entities than just being wives to men is real. Shaniera Akram, a social activist, has been nothing but a blessing for the people of Pakistan.
As problems in Pakistan rise at an all-time high, Shaniera Akram has always been at the top of every issue, advocating against these complications, educating the people, and raising social awareness within the population of Pakistan. She has been active on Twitter, talking about whatever issues that society fails to address.
Her work is remarkable and is present on her social media. Her documentary series about her walks along the Karachi Seaview are most popular, where she documents the trash and pollutants present there. Multiple times Shaniera Akram, along with her husband, has taken to Twitter to post about the hazardous condition of the Karachi Seaview shore. She urges the people and the authorities to take responsibility for their actions and help bring a change in Pakistan by curbing waste and finding alternative ways rather than dumping.
Not only did she cover the condition of pollution within Pakistan, but Shaniera has also been an active advocate against abuse in Pakistan. With her recently launched the campaign in Pakistan known as the Polished Man campaign, where we saw several Pakistani male celebrities painting their nails to stand in solidarity with children who silently suffer from abuse. Moreover, she encouraged men all over Pakistan to let go of their egos and stand up in support of victims of abuse.
Recently, on Twitter, she also talked about sexual abuse in Pakistan. She mentioned how sexual abuse is present in the most common places in Pakistan, and I couldn’t agree more. She tweeted urging the people to put their foot down against abuse, and if they ever come across someone inappropriately touching them in a public space, they have all the right to scream and tell them off right there.
She is an active member of the Akram Foundation that engages in multitudes of social work, community service, and several philanthropic projects. She was seen providing support to the 2016 Lahore suicide bombing victims and is often known for collecting charities for hospitals, promoting peace, health, and fitness while also raising social awareness within the people of Pakistan.
Her work for the environment has also been considerably prominent, as she shed light on the importance of recycling, the access to clean drinking water, and talking about the rise in pollution. Shaniera Akram is also a member of The Fred Hollows Foundation in Pakistan that operates to provide free medical treatment to the visually impaired.
Strong headed independent women are what we need! Shaniera Akram has been setting a beautiful standard for women all across Pakistan by providing them with a voice, rights, and educating them to learn how to react under any unfavorable conditions.
Role models like Shaniera are bound to good by the country; I aspire to be as brave and hardworking as her. She has created this image of a Pakistani social worker, and rightfully so!
Gone are the days when women were identified only because of the men they happen to be linked to, whether that is a brother, husband, or father. Shaniera Akram has proved to be a better Pakistani than the majority of influencers here, and I am in awe of her.
