Aamir Liaquat Bashed Over Hindu Deity Tweet

Aamir Liaquat became the centre of controversy and was severely condemned after he used the image of a Hindu deity to mock PML-N VP Maryam Nawaz.

On Tuesday, former TV host and current National Assembly member, Aamir Liaquat shared a screenshot of a news channel that quoted Maryam as saying: “They (government) will now see a second version of me.”

Aamir Liaquat in his tweet attached the quote with a Hindu deity’s image linking it to Maryam’s “second version (dusra roop)”.

His tweet garnered much hate and criticism from a number of politicians and netizens. Therein, Aamir Liaquat deleted his controversial tweet on Wednesday evening. A few hours later he acknowledged how the “sentiments of the Hindu community were hurt”. Aamir Liaquat made it clear that he had not intended the tweet as a disrespect.

“I respect all faiths, this is what my religion has taught me,” he added.

The twwet translates: “I apologize for hurting the feelings of the Hindu community. The purpose was never like that. The tweet has been removed. I respect all religions. These are the teachings of my religion.”

Dr Ramesh Kumar Vankwani, chief of the Pakistan Hindu Council and MNA for the PTI, heavily criticised Aamir Liaquat’s tweet as a “shameful act”.

“Strongly condemned this shameful act by someone who claims to be a religious scholar also but doesn’t know respect to other religions. Delete this tweet immediately otherwise we reserve right to demand strict action under the Blasphemy Act and protest across the country,” he wrote on Twitter.

A plethora of prominent figures, celebrities, journalists and writers didn’t hold back on bashing Aamir Liaquat over his twwet on Twitter and other social media platforms. Such behaviour against any religion, especially the minorities should not be tolerated. Using a Hindu deity for political point-scoring is another height of immorality and hypocrisy as it not only threatens the security of Muslims in minority across the globe but also tarnishes the ruling PTI.
