AKUH Overloaded with COVID-19, Closes CHC

Aga Khan University Hospital announces that they are temporarily closing its Community Health Center due to being overloaded by COVID-19 Patients.

Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) announces that they are temporarily closing its Community Health Center due to being overloaded by COVID-19 Patients. Their spokesperson however did clarify that this is only temporary as it would be dangerous to let patients in at the moment.

Since AKUH is JCI accredited, it has to follow the protocols that have been set by JCI. As of this morning, the emergency services are available, but AKUH is overcapacitated to accommodate and test COVID-19 patients.

While the COVID-19 has been contained in China, it has spread all over the world – especially in Europe and the United States. World Health Organisation (WHO) has announced that Europe is considered the new Epicentre of the virus.

Pakistan, despite being geographically close to China, only got infected on February 26th after a pilgrim arrived from Iran. Now, even our nation has crossed the 500 mark of COVID-19 patients, leading our hospitals such as AKUH to be overloaded.

Please practice self-isolation and social distancing as advised by the WHO and the Government. There is a partial lockdown in Balochistan for 3 weeks, while CM Murad Ali Shah has urged the people of Sindh to not leave their houses at all for the next 3 days. Furthermore, gathering of more than 3 people is disallowed in Sindh. PM Khan has also been highlighting the importance of social distancing over the past week.
