All That You Need To Know About Last Night’s Oscars

The Oscars are known for providing viewers with some of the most memorable moments in entertainment and last night was no exception.

One of the biggest events in Hollywood took place last night at the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles. Last night’s glamour filled Oscars was one of historical significance. That is because for the first time ever a non English film had won the Oscars. That film being the South Korean drama film Parasite.

Directed by Bong Joon-ho, the film tells the story of two families that belong from very different social classes. One is a poor family that lives in a semi basement and the other is a rich family that lives in a large house. The film has garnered universal acclaim from many critics.

As he took the stage to accept the award for best film, Bong Joon Ho described the victory as a ‘very opportune moment in history’. Ho had also won the award for best director and best original screenplay alongside Han Jin Won. The film has also won the award for best foreign film.

In the acting department, Joaquin Phoenix and Rene Zellweger continued their winning streak at the award shows as both had won the best actor and best actress award respectively. As part of his congratulatory speech, Phoenix talked about how important it is for actors like him to give ‘a voice for the voiceless’. He also discusses the need for standing up to injustice of any kind.

Phoenix, Zellweger, Pitt and Dern each won awards last night.

Meanwhile, Zellweger used her congratulatory speech to pay tribute to the Hollywood legend Judy Garland, whom she portrayed in the film Judy. She said that the award is a celebration of Garland’s legacy. Brad Pitt and Laura Dern both won the awards for best supporting actor and actress.

As part of his speech, Pitt took a more political tone and used his moment to talk about the mishandling of the ongoing Trump impeachment trial. Meanwhile, Dern used her speech to describe her victory as the ‘best birthday present ever’.
