Anwar Maqsood Has Seen No Worse Time than COVID-19 Pandemic

Anwar Maqsood noted that our TVs are filled with cooking oil ads, which shouldn't be aired when many don't have food during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The man who has lived through the many turmoils Pakistan has faced believes that there can be no worse time than this, “when the entire world is locked inside their homes for fear of a single sneeze, a single cough.” Anwar Maqsood further noted that our TVs are filled with cooking oil ads, which shouldn’t be aired when many don’t have food during the COVID-19 pandemic.

I just get saddened when I see all these cooking oil ads on TV these days, where people are frying food and tables are laden with food. I want to request TV channels not to air such ads during this time. There are so many people in Pakistan who don’t have any food in their homes.

He further asked the people to understand that the whole world was shut down, and all of the sacred worship places are closed down. “Then how can mosques not be closed down? How can the doors of our homes not be closed? If we take care, everything will reopen again soon.”

However, Anwar Maqsood did imply that the COVID-19 pandemic may have been a good thing for our TV and Cinema, as new productions won’t be released if they cannot shoot them. “For them, jawani phir nahi ani, truly.”

According to Maqsood, he spends most of his days painting, and cooking a lot while watching over his health. He stated that at this moment, he did not want to write about the pandemic, though in the future he may. “Even if I do write about this, these times are no laughing matter.”
