Are Doctors Being Too Hasty With Dying Patients?
Not once, not twice, there have been many instances when the the dying patient was declared dead due to COVID-19, but it wasn't what it seemed to be.
It is not only about Pakistan, but it has been happening all around the world. People are dying, mostly due to COVID-19, and rarely due to other reasons, apparently. But even if that is the case, regardless, patients are being declared dead due to COVID-19. And that has not only created confusion amongst people. Rather, it has also made the respectable family members lash out at the hospital administration. And well, they aren’t wrong. It is their right to know the exact reason, due to which their family member passed away. And it is any hospital’s duty to let them know. However, the ambiguity has created a space of vulnerability amongst people all over the world.
The same thing took place in three different localities. Attiqur Rehman (Kot Usman Khan), Tanvir Ahmed (Bhatta Sohandin) & Mohammad Aslam (Khundian) died due to different reasons. Rehman had asthma, while Ahmed was struggling with high blood pressure. After being shifted to Quarantine Center, the two passed away. Aslam was tested positive, while the other two were waiting for their results. And they passed away. The hospital facility, assuming they had COVID-19, buried the patient in the sanctuary, specially made for COVID-19 patients. The relatives didn’t receive the bodies. The hospital administration gave funeral and ‘ghusl’, themselves.
Later, when the results came out, the other two patients were tested negative. The hastiness of the hospital left their relatives no choice but not to attend the funeral. Who is actually responsible for this? The answer is for the people to seek. It is for them to know the SOP for everything. If these Doctors and hospitals keep on doing the same, people will lose trust in them too. Just like it has lost its trust in the government.
