Are Pakistan, Afghanistan and the USA the New Trio?
The USA said that it was pleasing to see Imran Khan visiting Kabul and will soon announce a high-level meeting of representatives from Pakistan and Kabul.
During his visit to Kabul, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that Pakistan will do everything possible to help end violence in Afghanistan. Moreover, this visit between the two countries made the USA very happy. The US State Department wrote on their Twitter: “Pleased to see PM Khan visiting Kabul to underscore Pakistan’s commitment to peace & to further cooperation with Afghanistan on security, refugees, trade, and regional connectivity.”

While addressing a joint press conference alongside Afghan President, Ashraf Ghani at the Presidential Palace, Imran Khan stated: “The idea of visiting at a time when violence is increasing is to assure you, President Ghani, that the people and the government of Pakistan have only one concern; peace in Afghanistan.”
“The only way to help people on both sides of the border is by peace, trade and connectivity.”
USA’s Special Representative wrote on his Twitter, “We look forward to soon announcing a regional investment fund and a high-level meeting of representatives from the United States, Uzbekistan, Pakistan, and Afghanistan to discuss connectivity, trade and development initiatives.”
Imran Khan reaffirmed that his visit to Kabul was “another step towards conveying Pakistan’s commitment to peace in Afghanistan”.

Imran Khan’s visit to Afghanistan came a few days after the Pentagon announced the reduction of the number of US military personnel in Afghanistan from 4,500 to 2,500 by January. After Democrat Joe Biden’s win in the USA’s Presidential Elections, former President Donald Trump is ending the 19-year war in Afghanistan, which is also USA’s longest conflict.
Moreover, Pakistani President, Dr Arif Alvi stated that due to their geographic locations, Pakistan and Afghanistan have the potential to become a “geo-economic and geostrategic hub” for the region.
“The geo-economic and geostrategic hub can allow goods to move from Central Asia towards the sea, and vice versa.”
Pakistan’s visit to Afghanistan has been the highest-profile visit between the two countries in a long time and has resulted in a relationship developing between the neighbours and the USA.
