Arooj Aftab Gets Nominated For Grammy Once Again
The performer has been recognized for her duet with Anoushka Shankar, "Udhero Na," and has been nominated for Grammy Music Awards.
You better believe a Grammy nomination for artist Arooj Aftab will materialise. The singer, who made history when she became the first Pakistani to bag a Grammy last year, has received a second nomination for her duet “Udhero Na” with Anoushka Shankar in the category of Best Global Music Performance.
Arooj Aftab announced the news via The New York Times breakdown of complete nominations on Instagram on Wednesday.
To encourage Arooj, actor Sarwat Gilani stopped by the comments thread and commented, “You go girl.” There were also comments from American singer Jessica Betts, Blood Orange’s Devonté Hynes, Rachel Eckroth, Priyanka Bose, Priya Darshini, Poorna Jagannathan, and other actors and musicians.
Arooj Aftab wrote in a different post, “Oh my God! ‘Udhero Na’ has been nominated for a Grammy. Congratulations to me and to Anoushka Shankar, Maeve Gilchrist and Nadje Noordhuis. Four badass women come together, play a song that I wrote when I was 15 and it’s getting its flowers. So, I’m very emotional and I’m very glad and I’m really really, just, I don’t even know. I’m in this hall of a ship, we’re about to perform in about 20 minutes or so. I don’t know how I’m going to do that but this is great. So, thank you.”
Actress Ushna Shah remarked on the artist’s video and questioned if the featured song, “Udhero Na,” the song which was released a while back is being nominated now so whether “Bolo Na” will eventually be re-released for a third straight Grammy. She wrote, “Bring ’em all home, superstar!”
Dr Mehrub Moiz Awan, an advocate for transgender rights, pianist Meritxell Neddermann, Spanish vocalist Marta Sánchez, and others all left comments on the post by Arooj Aftab.
The songs “Gimme Love” by Matt B and Eddy Kenzo, “Last Last” by Burna Boy, “Neva Bow Down” by Rocky Dawuni and Blvk H3ro, and “Bayethe” by Wouter Kellerman, Zakes Bantwini, and Nomcebo Zikode have all been placed in the same award.
Beyonce, the pop icon who topped the list of nominees for the Grammy Awards, will compete for Album Of The Year, the highest honour, against Adele, Harry Styles, and other artists.
Beyonce received nine nominations for the most prestigious Grammy Music Award. She now has 88 nominations overall, which ties her with her husband Jay-Z for the most nominations in Grammy history.
With Adele’s 30, Harry’s House from Styles, Special from Lizzo, and entries from ABBA, Bad Bunny, Mary J. Blige, Brandi Carlile, and Coldplay, dance-focused record Renaissance by Arooj Aftab will compete for album of the year.
