Asia Cup 2020 Postponed Due to COVID-19 Pandemic

The 2021 Asia Cup will now be held in Sri Lanka, and the 2022 Cup will be held in Pakistan, as the both countries exchanged their hosting rights.

The Asia Cricket Council (ACC) has finally announced that they will be postponing Asia Cup 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In the statement issued by the ACC, it is said that the executive board met numerous times to assess the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the Asia Cup 2020.

“From the onset, the board was keen on organising the tournament as per the original schedule. However, travel restrictions, country-specific quarantine requirements, fundamental health risks and social distancing mandates have posed as substantial challenges to holding the tournament.

“Above all, the risks related to the health and safety of participating players, support staff, commercial partners, fans and the cricketing community were deemed to be significant.”

It was only after considering the factors mentioned that the executive board postponed the Asia Cup 2020 tournament.

“Conducting the event in a responsible manner remains the ACC’s priority and the board is hopeful that the tournament will be held in 2021,” the statement said.

The ACC also stated that they will be trying to stage the Twenty20 tournament with six countries in June 2021 – these will include India, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

The 2021 Asia Cup will now be held in Sri Lanka, and the 2022 Cup will be held in Pakistan, as the both countries exchanged their hosting rights.
