Bajwa and Khan Discuss Army and Security Situation

Chief of the Army Staff Qamar Bajwa called Imran Khan to discuss professional matters pertaining to Pakistan Army & internal & external security situation.

In a tweet by the Prime Minister’s Office, it was revealed that “Chief of the Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa called on Prime Minister Imran Khan in Islamabad” and discussed “professional matters pertaining to Pakistan Army, internal and external security situation”.

The meeting comes days after a bomb exploded inside a madrasa in Peshawar, killing eight and injuring more than 120 others. While referring to this barbaric incident, PM Imran Khan stated: “The entire nation is united against the cowardly acts of the enemy.”

“The attack on a madrasa is [an act of] enmity towards Islam,” said Bajwa during his visit to the Upper Dir, Malakand Division.

The meeting also comes in light of pressure from the opposition on the government through its demonstrations and public meetings under the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) alliance, in which PML-N chief Nawaz Sharif stated: “General Qamar Javed Bajwa, you packed up our government, which was working well, and put the nation and the country at the alter of your wishes” and accused Bajwa of instating Imran Khan for the 2018 elections.

In his latest speech at the PDM rally in Quetta, Nawaz reiterated: “Gen Bajwa, you will have to answer for record rigging in the 2018 elections, for horse-trading in the Parliament, for making Imran Niazi prime minister against people’s wishes and [by] tearing apart the Constitution and laws, for pushing people towards poverty and hunger”.

Professional matters in regards to the Pakistan Army were also discussed during the meeting. The premier “paid tributes to the personnel of the army, FC and other law-enforcement agencies who sacrificed their lives for the country.”
