Belgian Prince Tests Positive for COVID-19 After Party in Spain
The nephew of the Belgian King Phillipe, Prince Joachim, has tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a party in Cordoba, Spain on May 26.
The nephew of the Belgian King Phillipe, Prince Joachim, has tested positive for COVID-19 after attending a party in Cordoba, Spain. The party reportedly broke the lockdown rules by hosting more people than allowed – while Spain’s province of Cordoba only permits 15 people to meet, the gathering attended by the Belgian Prince included 27 people in total.
According to the Belgian Royal Palace spokesperson, the 28 year old prince tested positive after attending the party in Cordoba on May 26. The statement further tells us that Prince Joachim travelled to Spain on May 24 for an internship and is still residing there.
The Spanish police is looking into the matter, and have stated that those who have breached the lockdown rules could possibly face a fine between 600 and 10,000 euros. It has also been reported that all the 27 people involved in the gathering are now in quarantine.
Cordoba’s regional envoy, Rafaela Venezuela, called the party “completely irresponsible” and stated that such carelessness could have led to an outbreak of infections and possibly stricter lockdown.
“I feel surprised and angry. An incident of this type stands out at a moment of national mourning for so many dead,” she said.
While the party attended by the Belgian Prince in Spain is not the only one that has occurred and been stopped by the police, it has garnered more attention by the public because of Prince Joachim being infected with COVID-19.
