Black Day for Kashmir Persists for 73 Years

People of Kashmir dwelling on both sides of the Line of Control observe black day against the occupation of the valley by Indian forces since Oct 27, 1947.

People of Jammu and Kashmir are dwelling on both sides of the Line of Control as they observe black day against the occupation of the valley by Indian forces since Oct 27, 1947. Indian forces invaded the state to subjugate the Kashmiri people. 73 years later, the matter continues to persist. The day will be marked by the complete shutdown in the territory.

Prime Minister Imran Khan has urged the international forum to work for a peaceful resolution of the Kashmir dispute in accordance with the relevant United Nations resolutions and wishes of the Kashmiri people. On the occasion of the Kashmir Black Day, the premier and President Dr Arif Alvi dwelled on Pakistan’s steadfast support to the people of Kashmir. “The Kashmir Black Day represents a dark chapter in human history when, 73 years ago, Indian forces landed in Srinagar to forcibly occupy the territory and subjugate people of Jammu and Kashmir”.

In a video message tweeted by the Prime Minister’s Office, Imran Khan stated, “I will keep reminding the world of the pain and suffering of Kashmiris.”

“I urge the international community, especially the Security Council, to exercise its moral, legal, political and diplomatic authority to implement UN Security Council resolutions on Jammu and Kashmir.”

The premier reiterated Pakistan’s peaceful negotiations

“We only want one thing, we want peace,” he said.

“I say again to India that we are ready [for peace] but for that, the military siege in Kashmir will have to end and the people of the valley need to be given the right to self-determination.”

Moreover, in a thread of tweets, President, Dr Arif Alvi asserted Pakistan’s long-standing support for the people of Kashmir. “In August 2019, India moved to alter the disputed status of occupied Jammu and Kashmir and change its demographic structure. The illegal and unilateral Indian actions have been rejected by the Kashmiri people, by Pakistan, and by the international community for violating international laws, UNSC resolutions, and India’s own commitments made bilaterally to Pakistan and the people of Kashmir.”
