Blackpink is a South Korean girl band formed by YG entertainment, with members Jisoo, Rose’, Jennie and Lisa, singing in five languages, Chinese, Japanese, English, Korean and Thai. The number of original songs BlackPink has as of publication time. They’ve released six singles, plus three additional songs on Square Up. Many of their tracks have also been remade for the Japanese music market.
The group debuted on August 8, 2016, with their single album Square One an Square Two. The two lead singles charted at number one and two on the Billboard World Digital Songs chart, and Blackpink is the fastest act to do so and the third Korean artist or group to hold the top two positions after label mates Psy and Big Bang.Blackpink’s commercial success in their first five months earned them several rookie awards at major Korean year-end music award shows, including the Asia Artist Awards, Melon Music Awards, Golden Disc Awards, Seoul Music Awards, and Gaon Chart Music Awards. Additionally, Billboard named them one of the best new K-pop groups of 2016. On January 21, 2019, the music video of “Ddu-du Ddu-du” became the most-viewed music video by a K-pop group on YouTube, with 620.9 million views.
Recently, Blackpink released a new music video/album Kill this love a Korean language song on 5th April 2019, and it has already crossed billions of views on youtube and officially has the biggest music video debut on YouTube… EVER. Its his literally taken youtube by a storm and K-pop fans are losing it over this music video like anything. In February 2019, Billboard announced that the group would be on the cover of the March issue, with five covers featuring one group cover and four covers featuring each of the individual members. They are the first K-pop girl group to grace the magazine’s cover.
