Bosnia & Pakistan Sign Agreement to Return Migrants

Imran Khan and Sefik Dzaferovic of Bosnia signed an accord for the repatriation of nearly 3,000 illegal Pakistani migrants.

On Wednesday Imran Khan and Sefik Dzaferovic of Bosnia met and signed a bilateral readmission agreement which will enable the repatriation of nearly 3,000 illegal Pakistani migrants. This event took place during Sefik Dzaferovic’s two-day visit to Pakistan.

Bosnia has been facing a migrant crisis recently as the country has developed as a common route for illegal migration. In official reports it has been deduced that Pakistanis estimate nearly 23 per cent (3,000) of the total illegal migrants. This issue surfaced as imperative earlier this year in April when Bosnia decided too deport these illegal migrants.

After a meeting between the Bosnian leader and Pakistan’s premier, the agreement proposed by Bosni was negotiated by Pakistan’s Interior Ministry and Bosnia’s Ministry of Security. The process involves a legal repartriation of illegal Pakistani migrants through a readmission process and Pakistani authorities will be obliged to accept them.

Moreover, apart from signing this agreement, the two leaders agreed on strengthening their cooperation in the economic, trade and investment, science and technology, defence industry, educational and cultural sectors.

“We discussed expansion of trade and we will continue to have meetings to improve our trade and cooperation in various fields,” said Imran Khan.

Sefik Dzaferovic also emphasised on the implementation of human rights and resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir dispute in line with relevant UN Security Council resolutions. Furthermore, recent practices of Islamophobia were also discussed between the leaders.

The meeting ended with Sefik Dzaferovic inviting Imran Khan to visit Bosnia which the latter accepted.
