Budget 2019-2020 Pakistan

Amidst all the arrests, the budget for Pakistan was announced, with even more tensions in the assembly itself.

On 11th June 2019, the budget for Pakistan was announced by the Minister of State for Revenue, Hamamd Azhar, in the Senate. The condition of Senate wasn’t really worth speaking in, as there was much chaos form the opposition during the announcement of budget, which not only disturbed the speaker, which was intended, but also the decorum of the house.

A budget of 7.02 trillion has been announced for the country in the year 2019-2020. As for the last year, the economy of Pakistan didn’t grow much. The expected raise was 6.2% however, the economy grew only 3.3% almost half of what was expected. As for the budget a 10% raise has been granted for the pensioners and low grade officer whereas 5% for 17th grade officers and none for above. Moreover, there were no changes made in the military budget. Increase in price for basic products such as oil, ghee, juices and sugar has been put forward by the government. Sugar will apparently increase by 3.5rs/kg. 17% sales tax will be implemented on semi-processed food like cooked chicken, mutton and fishery. Apart from that, when it comes to vehicles, 2.5% tax had been imposed on vehicles up to 1000cc, 5% on 1001-2000cc and 7.5% on more than 2000cc engine vehicles.

The budget did come as a blow for many because when at one place the government increased the minimum salaries from 13,000 to 17,500 on the other hand the prices for basic goods like lentils have increased at an unimaginable rate. Sadly, it’s quite unsure for many if the budget is good for Pakistan or not, but that’s that and we have to live with it for one year at least.
