Cannes Film Festival Postponed Due to COVID-19
Given the success of the 2019 Cannes Festivals, organisers were a little putt off about postponing the event.
Cannes Film Festival has been a staple in the cinematic world for around seven decades now. This year, it was scheduled to take place during May (from 12th to 23rd). However, now the organisers of the Cannes Festival are considering shifting the event to the end of June, early July due to COVID-19.

The decision comes after French Prime Minister Édouard Philippe ordered the closure of all restaurants, cafes and cinemas in France to promote self-isolation and social distancing in the times of COVID-19.
Impact of Cannes Festival on the Film Industry
Every year, many productions and distribution deals are concocted in Cannes. Film executives fly from all around the globe, along with the other stakeholders of the film industry to not only take part in the movie screenings, but also the world’s largest movie market.
The 2019 Cannes featured the big Oscar winners before their victories. Bong Joon Ho’s Parasite, as well as Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time … in Hollywood, Pedro Almodovar’s acclaimed Pain & Glory and Celine Sciamma’s celebrated French drama Portrait of a Lady on Fire were all screened at the festival, and Parasite even won the Cannes’ Palme d’Or before its Oscar victory.
The festival hasn’t been cancelled since socioeconomic protests stopped the 1968 festival and that was only halfway through the event. In 2003, SARS resulted in lighter attendance from Asia, but it has been 70 years since a Cannes Film Festival didn’t happen at all.
