CII Response to Hindu Temple Attack in Bhong Town
A Hindu Temple in Rahim Yar Khan was attacked a few days back. CII was not happy about the attack but appreciated the efforts of the government.
On August 4th, a Hindu Temple in Bhong Sharif in Rahim Yar Khan was attacked by a mob. Although a lot of political leaders failed to criticize the attack and attackers.
Council of Islamic Ideology (CII) released a statement against the attack saying that, like protecting non-Muslim lives and property, protecting the worship places of minorities is also the state’s responsibility. They also said “Demolishing any of their religious places of worship is a clear violation of Islamic law and Pakistani law.” Which makes this attack on Hindu Temple a crime and the attackers should be punished accordingly.
The government took the initiative of reconstructing the Hindu Temple before returning it to the Hindu community. CII expressed approval of the Chief Justice’s decision toward the heinous crime of destruction of the Hindu worship place.
CII also praised the action by Punjab Government to arrest the suspects.
Council in the statement said that according to the Pakistani Constitution, minorities are given full religious freedom and all civil rights. Hindu Temples, Churches, Stupa, and other worship places are allowed to be made and worshipped in. It was said that the Paigham – e – Pakistan was violated when the Hindu Temple was attacked.
However, the senior member National Commission of Minorities said that in the last two years, eight similar attacks have been witnessed. The senior member added, “This is a serious issue and despite a proactive approach taken by the government and authorities, mob attacks on temples have increased.”
The Deputy Commissioner of the area has assured the community that a security boundary wall around the temple. The expenses will be recovered by the rioters and the restoration of the idols is almost complete.
