CONNECT, BTS: K-pop Boy Band Launches Art Project

Connect, BTS aims to redefine the relationships between art and music, the material and immaterial, artists and their audiences, artists and artists, theory and practice.

The dreamy k-pop boy band members have taken over the world. BTS has received immense love and support for their work from the start and they’ve only grown bigger. It’s astonishing to see them grow and their fans always want to see them reach new heights. Hence, they wanted to explore more into the world of art through their global art project called Connect, BTS.

They’ve joined hands with many famous artists from five cities situated in different continents. This project is on a global level and will take place in the first few months of 2020. The locations mentioned are London, Berlin, Buenos Aires, Seoul and New York. In two locations, the project has already been started.

The website has described this project as:

“a global project to connect five cities and twenty-two artists, each of whom contributes their unique philosophy and imagination to it. This project aims to redefine the relationships between art and music, the material and immaterial, artists and their audiences, artists and artists, theory and practice.”

The band had been teasing their fans and kept them in the dark regarding Connect, BTS. But later on Tuesday, they revealed what it was all about. They made announcements and also tweeted about it.

BTS sent out invitation letters to many artists and 22 are on board. The first work was displayed in London. The artwork is called Catharsis and made by Jakob Kudsk Steensen, who partnered up with sound artist Matt McCorkle to produce this beautiful video artwork. It’s displayed at the Serpentine Galleries on London since Jan 14. It will be displayed there for quite some time so BTS fans can go and check it out.

The one displayed at Berlin will be a performance program. Many artists will perform together and create a harmonious experimental choreography and much more. It’s called the Rituals of Care. These performances offer radical acts of care and repair. Shows and artworks in the remaining cities are yet to be unveiled as the tabs on the website are locked and cannot be clicked. However, it is reported that an artist in Buenos Aires will be experimenting with balloons.

These artworks and shows do not include BTS anywhere but rather theories and ideologies that resonate with BTS. Connect, BTS is all about connecting art with music and bringing people together.
