Covid-19 Door-to-Door Vaccination Drive Starts In KPK

In 4 districts of KPK door-to-door vaccination drives for Covid-19 are starting from the 28th of July to reach the targeted vaccination numbers by August.

Back in March 2021, Pakistan started the Covid-19 vaccination drive for people aged 60 and above. Until now only 3.2% (6.87M) of the population of Pakistan is fully vaccinated and around 24.1M doses of the vaccine have been administered.

Vaccines like Cansino, Sinopharm, Sinovac, AstraZeneca, Sputnik, Pfizer, and PakVac (which is created by Pakistan itself) are been administered in Pakistan. Most of these are free of cost and administered in large quantities to the residents of Pakistan.

The resistance of the people of Pakistan towards Covid-19 vaccination has slowed down this process tremendously. The fourth wave has already hit Pakistan and the government is implementing a lockdown again. Lockdown in Sindh starts on Monday, July 26th.

Currently, the most active cases are in Sindh province with the number of active cases going up to 37,674. and the lowest in Gilgit Baltistan with a tally of 679.

Vaccination drive

In June 2021, the Pakistan Red Cross Society (PRCS) started a door-to-door and mobile vaccination drive in Islamabad for people who were unable to go to the vaccination centers. PRCS also started mobile drives in two famous and biggest malls in Karachi. They also started drives in Hilal-e-Ahmer and Red Crescent Medical Centre in Karachi.

National Command and Operation Centre (NCOC) is starting door-to-door vaccination drives in KPK in the district of Mansehra, Peshawar, Abbottabad, and Mardan, on the 28th of July. This has been started to reach the target of the vaccinations by the end of August. According to officials, this is a huge step towards fighting the life-threatening virus.

This campaign is being run by Lady Health Workers and technicians of a program for immunization from Covid-19. Most families in these districts are traditional and don’t let ladies of the house out of the house unnecessarily, and getting women vaccinated was being overlooked.

Vaccination for males would be administered in guest houses and women will get it in their houses. If the campaign is successful in these 4 districts, the program has planned to extend its Covid-19 vaccination drives to other districts like Charsada, Kohat, Dera Ismail Khan, and Nowshera.

Presently, KPK has 411 active cases and out of which 19 people are on ventilators.

However, it is still advised by the government to follow SOPs and wear masks in public places. These instructions are for both people who aren’t vaccinated and people who are. The government is thoroughly encouraging the population to get vaccines for Covid-19 immunization or else there will be serious penalties like blocking of sim cards and not allowing entry in public places.
