According to official figures it is the deadliest year since the epidemic first recorded in the year 2000. Local media reports that at least 50 people have died from dengue.

The worst hit is the capital Dhaka where people are struggling to find space in hospitals. Many people with symptoms such as high fever, joint pains and vomiting are seeking treatment.

Dengue

The government has launched initiatives such as awareness campaigns to control the spread of dengue. A sharp increase is seen in 2019 globally as compared to previous years.

Countries like Australia, Cambodia, China, Laos, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Vietnam have specially seen an increase. It has grown rapidly because it evolves in topical cities and easily spread in small puddles of water.

Majority of the kids affected are children and more than 50 districts of the country are affected. This rises fears of potential global health emergency.  A recent study found that rising temperatures could see the female aedes aegypti mosquito which carries dengue migrate to those parts of the world.
