EU Seeks For Truth in Kashmir

European Union has scheduled to visit Kashmir, but they want to remain unattended by the local government.

It has been around 160 days since the lock down in Kashmir. What Muslims have to face in Kashmir is quite evident.  Yet, till date no strict actions have been taken against the Indian Government. Where tensions between Iran and US kept escalating, there has been a bit of peace between Pakistan and India, temporarily. However, UN had their interest more in US-Iran war rather than the human rights violation in Kashmir. However, EU has looked into the matter deeply and wants to re-visit Kashmir. Initially, New Delhi had invited around 40+ countries to visit Srinagar and Jammu Kashmir, on a two day visit. However, many countries including EU rejected the offer.

The offer was refused by EU and several other countries as they wanted to meet the people of Kashmir ‘unescorted.’ EU wants it more to be like a one-on-one session with the people of Kashmir. However, the countries visiting think if they’re escorted, they won’t be able to meet people. They said, if they visit under heavy protocol, it will be more like a ‘guided tour’, which isn’t what they want.

“If the Indian government has nothing to hide, they should not worry about people visiting Kashmir and witnessing the situation with their own eyes,” Van Hollen was quoted as saying by The Washington Post.

Along with human rights violence in Kashmir, India too is on the same track. Muslims are becoming a target of Indian forces. However, celebrities and liberal Indians are trying to keep up with Muslims in their areas.

EU as well as UNHR should visit Kashmir as well as India, to see what Muslims have to go through, every single day. We hope this settles soon.
