Firdous on a Roll: Rules Out Extension of the Sharifs’ Paroles & More

In regards to speculation that the parole periods of Shehbaz Sharif and his son Hamza Shehbaz will be extended, Special Assistant to Chief Minister on Information Firdous Ashiq Awan said on Tuesday “extending release on parole is not a part of government’s policy. Whether it is a member of the Sharif family or an ordinary citizen, the government will ensure the same law.”

Shehbaz Sharif, leader of the opposition in the National Assembly, who is currently on five-day parole due to the death of his mother, has applied for an extension. “Since Mr Shehbaz Sharif is the leader of the Opposition and president of one of the largest parties in the country and Mr Hamza Sehbaz Sharif is the leader of the Opposition in the Punjab Assembly, people from all walks of life and from all over the country are coming for condolences. It is, therefore, requested that an extension in parole be granted with immediate effect.”

Completely rejecting the request, Firdous spoke at the Governor’s House: “Shehbaz Sharif will not be allowed to play politics on the death of his mother. Chief Minister Usman Buzdar already gave a five-day release on parole to both of them instead of 12 hours on humanitarian grounds. Sharifs should not have asked for an extension in the first place. Shehbaz Sharif was released to attend his mother’s funeral. He would not be allowed any extension for politics and look after his business affairs.”

Moreover, Firdous Ashiq Awan at a press conference at the DGPR Headquarters office, said an FIR will be registered against the organisers of the Multan PDM rally for violating the Punjab Infectious Diseases Control Act. despite being asked by officials to delay the rally in the interest of public health and safety. 22 people from PML-N, 16 from PPP, 13 from JUI-F and some unknowns have been nominated in the FIR.

She also ruthlessly exposed the members of the PDM alliance. Firdous Ashiq Awan revealed that during Maryam Nawaz Safdar’s speech at the Multan rally, a fire broke out in a warehouse due to their fireworks and the warehouse owner demanded a case against former PML-N MPA, Shahid who was responsible for the damage. Furthermore, she exposed Maulana Fazal ur Rehman for distributing sticks among his workers to attack the police.

Firdous concluded that the PDM is allowed to continue with their political rhetoric but cannot play with the lives of the people as their rallies are a major contributing factor to the rise of COVID-19 cases in the nation.
