Former PTI Social Media Head Imran Ghazali to Lead DMW
It has been announced that PTI's former social media head, Imran Ghazali, will be leading the new DMW under the Ministry of Information and Technology.
It has been announced that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) former social media head, Imran Ghazali, will be leading the new Digital Media Wing (DMW) under the Ministry of Information and Technology. Ghazali was the party’s social media head until 2016.
The decision to hire Imran Ghazali as the general manager of the DMW came after assessing 500 applications. His pay would be according to the Management Pay-II (MP-II) pay scale, which is expected to be almost Rs 300,000 with Rs 150,000 being the basic pay.
Along with the former PTI social media head, five more people have been hired. These include four digital communication officers – Shahbaz Khan, Usman bin Zaheer, Naeem Ahmed Yasin, and Syeda Dhanak Hashmi – at the MP-III scale, as well as Mohammad Muzamil Hassan. The latter has been hired for the role of digital media consultant at MP-III scale. These positions would pay Rs 75,000 a month.
Under Imran Ghazali’s leadership, the DMW will be responsible for organising the social media content for the government’s social media assets. Furthermore, they will curate the social media content for all of the federal ministries and verify the related social media accounts.
While there have been rumors that the government approved and hired only those who were a member of PTI’s social media team, Dr Arsalan Khalid has vehemently denied any such allegation. He stated that only Imran Ghazali belonged to PTI’s social media team, and even he hasn’t been a part of the team since 2016.
Muzamil Hassan and Shahbaz Khan both belong to Lolz Studios (an infotainment channel on YouTube), Usman bin Zaheer worked for Geo Entertainment Network until 2018, Naeem Ahmed has worked for news channels, including 24 News, Dunya News, Geo News and Bol News, and Syeda Dhanak Hashmi, worked as the Director Research and Development at the Centre for Global and Strategic Studies (CGSS).
