Further Three Days Added To Remand in Sarah Inam Murder Case

The temporary release of the suspect's mother was postponed until October 7. The physical remand of Shahnawaz, the suspect, was further extended for 3 days.

Shahnawaz Amir, the primary suspect in the death of Sarah Inam, had his physical remand in custody extended by a local court in Islamabad on Monday for an additional three days.

On September 23, Shahnawaz was taken into custody on suspicion of killing his Canadian wife. The event happened in the farmhouse where the suspect and his mother, Sameena Shah, resided in Shahzad Town.

Police introduced the primary suspect during today’s session, asking Civil Judge Muhammad Amir Aziz to extend Shahnawaz’s physical remand by three days.

The investigative officer told the court that the passport of the victim, Sarah, was still missing and described it as a “crucial” component of the probe. He continued by saying that a clear picture of Sarah’s travel history would be available from her passport.

Shahnawaz’s physical remand was then extended by the judge for further 3 days.

The temporary bail for the mother of Shahnawaz, Sameena, was extended by an Islamabad district and sessions court till October 7. (Friday). The hearing was presided upon by Additional Sessions Judge Sheikh Sohail.

The family had indicated they did not want to include an “innocent individual” in the case, according to Rao Abdul Rahim, the father of Sarah’s client.

Rahim told the court, “They (the family) should be granted additional time to present proof of their defence,” adding that he also needed to review certain relevant evidence.

In response to the arguments, the judge increased Sameena’s temporary bail.

In accordance with section 109 of the Pakistan Penal Code, Sameena has been named as a co-accused in the murder case.
