Government to Invest in the Tourism Industry

Government has decided to invest in road-making in Balakot and Kaghan region in Khyber Pakhtoon Khwa.

Pakistan faced a severe downfall in the tourism sector when the Taliban took over Waziristan and Swat Valley. Things went so bad, that in 2010, hotels had to rent out free for 10-days, so that there were people who at least come repeatedly to visit the upper areas. Nevertheless, since Zarb-e-Azb took place, and the Taliban fled the area, tourism started to flourish. The pace was way too slow, and mostly it was only Pakistanis who were touring the area, but for them, something was better than nothing.

For the last couple of years, there has been a notable increase in the tourism industry. But tourism isn’t possible with broken roads and looting hotels. Hence the government has decided to take it step by step. For a change, the Government has decided to invest in the tourism sector. The KPK government has announced to provide Balakot and Kaghan with 1.25 Billion Rupees for constructing roads.

“For the first time in the country’s history, the federal government has given the tourism sector the status of an industry and launched mega development projects to explore more and more tourist destinations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa,” Federal Parliamentary Secretary for Power, Salah Mohammad Khan, said while speaking at the oath-taking ceremony of the hoteliers association in Balakot on Sunday.

It is good to see that the government is thinking about the tourism sector. A country can earn much out of it, only if they are willing to. But for that, investments are really important. And well, for a third-world country it is difficult, but not impossible.
