Government to Provide Kits to Journalists Against COVID-19
Awan also appealed to the journalists to give airtime to people who have recovered from COVID-19 to curb people's fears and panic regarding the pandemic, as well as reduce the stigma against the patients in society.
Central Government has announced that they will be providing protective kits and gears for journalists who are visiting the quarantine centres and ICUs to cover the latest news regarding COVID-19.
Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister on Information and Broadcasting, stated that journalists were playing a front-line role in the fight against COVID-19 and their health and safety was a top priority.
The SAPM also announced that the Government is going to launch “Care for Media” soon. This is an app designed to provide information to journalists if someone from the community tested positive for COVID-19 and help them with treatment.
Furthermore, she added that hawkers had been most affected by the lock down due to newspaper distribution disruption. She claimed that they would also be included in the government’s Ehsaas Emergency Cash programme.

Positive news regarding COVID-19 is strictly needed on media as hearing negative news all day can have a negative impact on the audience’s mental health.
SAPM also advised the information ministers to share truthful information with the media – as the Prime Minister had stated in the past that “hiding facts is akin to causing harm to the country.”
