The luxury brand, Gucci owned by French group Kering, donates $500,000 to aid covid-19 vaccine distribution and help the needy worldwide.

Earlier this year in March Gucci donated 2 million euros – $2427,900 – to Covid-19 response efforts and now it is announced that Gucci will donate $500,000 to aid Covid-19 vaccine distribution, once it is approved. Gucci will also match up to $100,000 of their funds raised during the “21-Day Challenge”, an initiative running through December 26, which asks the Gucci community to contribute donations through the company’s online platform.

“No one is truly free unless we are all free: this also includes being free from sickness,” Marco Bizzarri, Gucci’s president and CEO, said in a statement, “Now that a Covid-19 vaccine appears to be ready for use, the true challenge is ensuring that it is procured and distributed fairly.” He further added, “This is a global battle, a global effort, and the commitment also needs to be global.”

Now when the Covid-19 vaccine has finally here, officials are deciding how to distribute it once it gets approved. But the effort needed to reach herd immunity will be much harder on a worldwide scale. UNICEF is “working on the equitable global supply and distribution of a safe COVID-19 vaccine when available,” Michael J. Nyenhuis, UNICEF USA’s president, and CEO explained in a statement.

Gucci isn’t the only one donating to aid Covid-19, there are many other brands too who have contributed to this pandemic. Luxury brand Lacoste has helped in this Covid-19 situation by producing as many as 100,000 face masks. High-end jeweler Graff has donated $1 million to the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund, which supports the World Health Organization – WHO. Luxury beauty brand Estée Lauder has responded to the shortage of hand sanitizer by reopening a factory in New York. The facility will produce hydroalcoholic gel for high-risk groups and medical staff. And many others like Ralph Lauren, Prada, and Hugo Boss have also contributed.
