Half Past 2020, Should I be Glad or Sad?
6 months have passed and 6 more to go. How has been the year so far? Here are a few highlights of Jan-June 2020.
This year seems to be one of the harshest years this generation has ever gone through. Here are some notable events that took place in 2020, that no one, literally no one was ever prepared for.
Australian Bush Fire
The year 2020 started with the on-going Australian Bushfires, which took around 40 human lives directly and around 400 lives were lost due to smoke in the surrounding areas. Around a billion animals also passed away in the last Australian Bushfire. Around 6,000 buildings were damaged. And the bushfire burnt around 18.6 million hector area.
The Assassination of Qassim Solemani
The Iranian Major General was assassinated on 3rd January 2020. The US had attacked Solemani in Iraq. As to avenge his death, Iran attacked US bases in Iraq. It claimed around 70 American Lives.
COVID-19
The first COVID-19 death was recorded in China, and the first case was also recorded in the US. Since Jan, there have been more than 500,000 deaths all around the world. China came under lockdown and slowly and gradually the whole of the world came under lockdown. With minimum movement and maximum precautions, the world still is fighting to beat the on-going Pandemic.
Deaths
Several famous people have passed away in 2020. It started in January, with the death of a famous NBA player, Kobe Bryant & his daughter. Apart from several Bollywood stars passed away in 2020 too. This includes Irrfan Khan, Rishi Kapoor, Nimmi, Wajid Khan, and Sushant Singh Rajput. Moreover, Pakistan’s famous host, Tariq Aziz also passed away in 2020. Islamic Scholars like Allama Talib Johri and Mufti Naeem also passed away in the year 2020. Moreover, Zara Abid, a renowned celebrity, also passed away in a plane crash in Karachi.
Plane Crashes
Two planes crashed in the year 2020. One in Iran, carrying Penensulian passengers. This incident took around 170 lives. Another incident took place in Karachi, Pakistan, which took 100 lives. The plane crash in Karachi, has opened many different secrets of the PIA.
George Floyd
The death of an American Citizen, George Floyd, who was killed because of his color, created havoc all around the world. #Blacklivesmatter went trending all around the world. The situation in the US deteriorated due to this one death only.
And this is just a gist. The number of people who have been left jobless is put aside. Many people have been left homeless due to COVID-19. The world order has changed. Britain has left the EU. Locusts have attacked a number of crops, and many countries flooded this year. This all has become a reason for 2020 to be the worst year so far. And this is just the half of it. The other half of 2020 is yet to come. May God save us all.
