Pakistan Super League (PSL) season 4 kicked off with an opening ceremony held at the Dubai International Stadium where a number of different performers took the stage.

The ceremony started off with the national anthem of Pakistan after which Ramiz Raja took over the microphone. PCB Chairman Ehsan Mani acknowledged UAE and the main sponsors for this year’s PSL.

When it was time for the performances, Mani was followed by a marching band that played Europe’s The Final Countdown which is famous because of the 1992 World Cup – the time when Pakistan took the trophy home under the captaincy of Prime Minister, Imran Khan.

Next it was Boney M, a Euro-Carribbean singer who took the stage. She sang her trademark track: Daddy Cool. Afterwards, Aima Baig did her take on Nazia Hasan’s popular song Disco Deewanay and was also joined by Shuja Haider.

Junoon rockers Ali Azmat, Brian O’Connell and Salman Ahmed set fire to the stage which the audience enjoyed quite a lot. Their performance ended with Jazba Junoon, which we totally predicted.

Fawad Khan was the final performer of the night and the crowd was quite excited for it. He did look like eye-candy but unfortunately his lip-sync was quite off. He was joined by rapper Young Desi for a cameo. While they were performing, the 6 teams and their players walked out with confetti raining and lights flashing.

The biggest letdown was the absence of American rapper Pitbull who pulled out at the last minute saying that he faced a “technical issue”with his flight.

Overall, the PSL 2019 Opening Ceremony was not that exciting. What are your thoughts on it?
