Human Rights Action Plan Instated By KP

Pakistan's province, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has announced the launch of the Human Rights Action Plan to protect human rights within the province.

The provincial government launched its Human Rights Action Plan on Tuesday, 15th December, similar to the one launched in Punjab.

Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Law and Human Rights Minister, Sultan Muhammad Khan, launched the Humans Rights Action Plan hoped that this plan will further strengthen the protection of human rights in the province.

Addressing the launch of the Human Rights Action Plan (HRAP), Sultan says that it was formulated with keeping all stakeholders informed. “The HRAP was a great achievement of the provincial government which will enrich the protection of human rights,” he said, stressing that their government was working to protect human rights in general and women’s rights in particular.

Moreover, he said that several other provisions after the Human Rights Action Plan were also under construction. Similar to the Harassment Reporting Unit for women in Pindi, Peshawar will be creating a Child Protection Court to ensure strict laws for children. Sultan further says that women’s protection and laws against Domestic violence will also be instated in the province.

Further, the minister said that a provincial human rights directorate has set up a database on human rights which will aid the Human Rights Action Plan. Further elaborating on the plan, he said that responsibilities have been assigned systematically. He said that the provincial government has been working on such laws as legal aid authority, women’s property rights, and other key issues, for quite some time.

This Human Rights Action Plan has been developed in collaboration with the non-governmental organization, Democratic Reporting International (DRI).

Moreover, the Blue Veins Coordinator, Qamar Naseem, said that while they hope this movement will improve things in the province, however, he warned that similar plans, committees, and commissions were set up by the past governments as well but things they did could not go on. He further urged the government to work on such issues and also instate a child marriage restraint bill as with the global pandemic, the ratio of underage girls getting married has seen a sharp increase.
