Hunger Games Prequel Sells Over 500,000 Copies in a Week

"The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" is a prequel to The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins and has sold over 500,000 copies in one week even during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Suzanne Collins’ The Hunger Games has been one of the most famous young adult series over the past decade, and continues to amaze the readers with the new release. The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes is a prequel to The Hunger Games and has sold over 500,000 copies in one week. This total includes print, e-books and audiobooks according to the publisher Scholastic.

NPD BookScan, which tracks around 85 percent of the print market, reported Wednesday that Songbirds and Snakes topped last week’s list with 270,000 copies sold. The Associated Press in a review praised the new novel, released May 19, as “mesmerizing” and called Collins “a master of building a fascinating world around complex characters.”
