Islamabad: A Safe Haven In Pakistan

Islamabad is seen as an ideal city in a country marred by violence, poverty and extremism. Much of the city’s residents enjoy higher living standards than the rest of the country. The city does not experience any sort of unrest or instability unlike its counterpart in the south, Karachi.

The city is highly admired for its peace and tranquility. This can easily be reflected by its ranking in the World Crime Index. The report is a survey of over three hundred and seventy four cities from around the world. It ranked three hundred and one overall, jumping sixty nine positions from its rank of two hundred and thirty second of last year.

The city ranks way higher than some of the major metropolises of the world such as Sydney, London, Moscow, Paris, Berlin and Shanghai. According to the Islamabad Police Chief Aamir Zulfiqar, effective police strategies are a sole reason for why the crime rate in the city is reducing.

The Police Chief claims that the rate of crime has decreased by up to twenty percent. Acts of theft and dacoity have decreased significantly. In 2019, there were just twenty eight cases of dacoity, a reduction of forty cases from 2018. In terms of theft, the cases had reduced from five hundred and four to four hundred and thirty eight. The stats and the high ranking help indicate Islamabad’s position as one of the safe havens in Pakistan.
