Juul CEO steps down amid on going investigations on recent lung-disease related cases

Juul’s CEO Kevin Burns stepped down on Wednesday 25th September, amid increasing health crises. He is said to be replaced by K.C Crosthwaite, executive at Altria – one of the largest shareholders of Juul.

Over the past few months there have been several cases among teenagers and young adults, of lung related diseases. As of 17 September, there have been 9 deaths and about 530 cases of lung related diseases reported in US alone.

Several states are also moving to ban the use of e-cigarette, while some already have.

Juul has also suspended all forms of advertisements -TV, print and digital.

Its founders Adam Bowen and James Monsees released a statement following Burns’ departure:

“Kevin transformed our start-up into a global business, and we are incredibly grateful for his commitment to and passion for our mission”
