Karachi To Bear Heatwave During 5th-8th May

As summers are already here, Karachi is again to go through a heat wave between 5th May and 8th May 2020.

This is not the first time Karachi will experience a heatwave in 2020. Karachi has already experienced an almost two days heatwave in mid-April. However, then, people weren’t fasting in the city. The upcoming heatwave will be the first one this Ramzan and it is going to be tough on people. The last time such heatwaves came in Karachi was back in 2015. That year, around 2000 people died in Sindh, especially Karachi, as the temperature recorded was 45C. And, it was Ramadan back then, that year.

This year, the mercury is expected to hit up to 42C, from 5th – 8th May 2020, which is going to be troublesome for the people of Karachi. Once again, this will be happening in the holy month of Ramadan, when people are fasting. The electricity is being cut off for the same time period, the people are in no better condition too. Moreover, the winds blowing in from the northwest will create more humidity, hence even more hot weather.

All we hope is that the government supports people during this heatwave. Already, people are dying amid lockdown. If people start dying due to load-shedding in the heatwave, things might turn sour in the country. The havoc in the dilemma if the person has passed away because of COVID-19 or heatstroke, will be dangerous in the country. Already those who are dying of natural death, the families are facing hard times burying them.

All we hope is that the Government stops load shedding, at least in this period of time, so that people do not die of hot weather and humidity.
